Here is a preview of the archery competition at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games based on historical facts and figures:
Ø 6,000,000 – Number of archers worldwide.
Ø 9,216 – Arrows will be shot in total by the archers in the qualifying round (128 archers, 72 arrows each).
Ø 5,423 – Seating capacity at the Olympic Green Archery venue.
Ø 1972 – The year archery became permanent in the Olympic programme.
Ø 684 – Olympic points record in the men's 72 arrows 70m Round, set by Michele FRANGILLI (ITA) in Atlanta 1996.
Ø 673 – Olympic points record in the women's 72 arrows 70m Round, set by Lina HERASYMENKO (UKR) in Atlanta 1996.
Ø 231 – Men's world record for a 24-arrow team match.
Ø 228 – Women's world record for a 24-arrow team match.
